Padua is one of the most fascinating cities in Veneto, famous for its artistic, cultural and religious heritage. Among the main attractions: Giotto's frescoes, historical museums, ancient buildings, lively squares and a rich city life. Walking through the historic center means immersing yourself in shops, traditional markets and an authentic atmosphere.
One of the most important masterpieces of medieval painting: the Scrovegni Chapel houses the famous cycle of frescoes by Giotto, created in 1303-1305. Art, spirituality and beauty come together in a unique experience in the heart of Padua.
Known as the Basilica of the Saint, it is one of the most important pilgrimage sites in Europe. Begun in 1232, its architecture mixes Romanesque, Gothic and Byzantine elements. Inside are kept the relics of Saint Anthony of Padua.
With its 90,000 m², Prato della Valle is one of the largest squares in Europe. It hosts markets, events, concerts and is the beating heart of Paduan life. Surrounded by statues and crossed by an elliptical canal, it is perfect for a walk or a picnic.
In the center of Padua, the Palazzo della Ragione dominates between the Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza della Frutta. On the upper floor, the large frescoed hall from the 15th century is not to be missed. On the ground floor is the famous “Sotto il Salone”, a historic covered market.
Founded in 1222, the University of Padua is among the oldest in the world. Palazzo Bo houses the Teatro Anatomico, the oldest permanent anatomy theater in the world (1594), and the historic chair of Galileo Galilei.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, the Botanical Garden is the oldest in the world still in its original location. Founded in 1545, it is home to over 6,000 plant species, the famous Goethe Palm, ponds with aquatic plants and a modern biodiversity garden.
The Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta, also designed by Michelangelo, and the Baptistery frescoed by Giusto de’ Menabuoi, represent an extraordinary example of fourteenth-century sacred art.
The center of civil power in the Middle Ages, Piazza dei Signori hosts the Clock Tower with the famous “ribotto”. The market is held here every morning and you can admire historic buildings such as the Loggia del Consiglio.
A historic 19th-century café known as the “Caffè senza porte” (Cafe without doors), Caffè Pedrocchi is a symbol of modern Padua. Famous for its mint coffee and Stendhal zabaglione, it is a meeting point for intellectuals and students.
In the heart of the historic center is the ancient Jewish ghetto of Padua, dating back to 1603. It still preserves active synagogues, narrow streets and tall buildings. It is an area full of charm and ideal for enjoying traditional cuisine in the neighborhood's restaurants.
After an intense day of art, culture and historical wonders, Cà Vendalis offers you the ideal place to relax immersed in the tranquility of the Venetian countryside, just a few minutes from Padua.
